Accessibility notes:

The English sections will have subtitles with German and the German sections will have subtitles in English. Please check for content notes and sensory triggers below.

Venue: 

At Ballhaus Ost, from the street into the backyard, to the entrance of where the performance takes place there are no steps. There are cobblestones in the backyard where guests can collect their tickets and where the bar is, the surface of the ground is slightly uneven. Entering the space where the performances will take place, there are double doors which are 194 cm wide. Then, there are a second pair of double doors which have an entrance measurement of 180 cm. The third set of doors which brings the audience into the space where the performance takes place is 136 cm. All of these doors will be closed until the early boarding begins.There is one wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor of the building. The entrance through the hallway to access this toilet is 198 cm. The entrance to the toilet is 79 cm. There is no lift. There is one bar outside in the backyard, there are no steps to reach the bar. If it's raining, this bar will not be open. There will be bean bags in the backyard available for seating. There is another bar on the first floor. This bar is not wheelchair accessible. There are 17 steps between the ground floor and the first floor.

 

Performances:

There will be an Access Friend wearing a yellow t-shirt, 30 minutes prior to the first performance. They will be standing close to the entrance and available to assist you in regard to accessibility. We will begin early boarding for the performances ten minutes before the show begins. There are four bean bags available for Saturday’’s performance on the 7th of September and six available on the 8th. To reserve one of these seats please email a.fegers@apricot-productions.com. You can leave the performances and re-enter at any time.

Please consider sitting near the exit if you would like to potentially leave the performance. There will be a 15 minute pause between the two performances. The audience is welcome to stay in the space but should be aware of spoilers.

Content and Sensory Notes

 

Track 1: She Shanty

The performers are already on stage when the audience enters.

Through most of „She Shanty“ it is dark in the auditorium.

At one point a performer walks through the audience and reads a text. For this the house lights are turned on. The performer does not interact with the audience.

There are no sudden or drastic changes in light. There is one scene towards the end where a string of red lights is used that shine towards the audience.

There is music and voice overs or ocean soundscapes that sometimes overlap. There are also a few silent moments. Use of video/projections.

All spoken text is amplified.  

Partial nudity but not for very long.

Use of finger guns and dramaturgical death of a minor character (to kickstart the protagonist’s journey).

 

General topics of this piece include:

heteronormativity/heterosexism, isolation, loneliness, exclusion in queer spaces, exile, migration, racism, mentions of transmysia/transphobia, feelings of (not) belonging and longing.

Intermission: There is a 15 minute intermission between the two performances. You may stay in the space but should be aware of spoilers for „Pass this on“.

 

Track 2: Pass This On

It is dark in the auditorium. There are both slow and fast changes in lighting. Some of the lights may shine towards the audience.

There will be music and dancing/stripping of clothes accompanied by colorful lights.

Repeated use of photo and video projections.

Use of haze.

Use of rapidly blinking red spotlights in the auditorium during one scene.

The performer changes outfits on stage and is naked for some time.

There is a phone on stage that will ring, once Kay sits in the bathtub.  

Towards the end sounds of a person swimming and being under water can be heard.

All spoken text is amplified.

transition and gender affirming care, sex and sexuality, family/families, loneliness, isolation, ableism, racism, mental illness and depression, chronic illness, fatigue and disability, transmysia/transphobia, exclusion in queer spaces, sexual assault, mention of lockdown.
